2012 Mother of the Year

I would like to nominate my mother Clara Alston as mother of the year because she is very beautiful inside and out. My mother has worked so hard to raise 5 children and instill values in my brothers, sisters and me. She taught us at a very young age the importance of hard work. I watched my mother day after day report to work at a cotton mill that closed down after working 23 years. She did not receive any retirements or service pay however had to find another job and start all over again. That did not hinder her faith in God because she was blessed with another job after staying out of work for only a few months.

My mother was married to my step father for 22 years and she witnessed him have a heart attack and die at home right before her eyes in 2004. I never saw her shed a tear due to this travesty because she wanted to stay strong for us. My mother continued to work hard after his death to maintain the house hold expenses. She never once complained about being a widow because she knew that she had to pick up the pieces and simply move on.

My mother is the grandmother of 7 grandchildren and she loves them dearly. She will cancel her plans just to keep the grandchildren when needed and that lets me know that she clearly put others before her self. She is there for every event that pertains to the grandchildren because she once said that she does not want to miss out on the special moments of being a grandmother.

My mother has gone over and beyond to keep us on the right path and because of that my brothers, sisters and I have continued to accomplish goals that were set. All of our accomplishments are due to the love and dedication given from our mother. She always believed in us and never turned her back on us even when we were doing wrong. I had my children at a young age and she was there to teach me how to be the best mother that I could be to them.

I am so proud to say that my mother has found love again with her first teenage boyfriend after 40 years. They have been dating each other for over a year and now they are currently planning a wedding that will be on July 14, 2012. My mother is very happy with her life right now and deserves every blessing that comes her way.
